We are so excited to begin the process of building our Texas home! Our home will be built on the Bergheim Texas Ranch, owned by our Son in Law and Daughter.

The inspiration for the home is derived from the "Texas Sunday House" style of architecture whereby German farmers and ranchers and their families who lived remotely many miles from a town would build a small (under 1000 sq. ft.) Sunday House in town. This enabled them to travel to the town on Saturday, go to a beer and/or a dance hall, and then on Sunday morning go to church followed by a Sunday brunch, then the long trek back to the ranch.

The Sunday houses were usually pitched roofs with a loft accessed by a staircase either inside or outside the house.

Hire the best Architect that you can!

Our Texas house was designed by DZN Partners in Encinitas, CA. Our home in Carlsbad, CA, was designed by the same firm 20 years ago. We are so very excited to begin this project and it starts with the design phase. We will chronicle the progess and stages of the house build on these pages in our future post.
